What the critics have to say…

One look at the 2021 Range Rover Velar is enough to convince even the most discerning eye that Land Rover’s designers hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, the Velar’s blasé driving demeanor doesn’t match its natty attire.
— Car and Driver

The Velar is Land Rover’s second-smallest Range Rover, positioned above the pint-sized Evoque and below the Range Rover Sport and full-size Range Rover. With more dramatic styling than its elegant big siblings, the Velar is a style-first SUV like the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Porsche Cayenne Coupe, and BMW X6.

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?

The Velar is a great city car, but…

when you hit the winding roads the engine simply isn’t up to the task.   The steering is precise, but the body roll is unacceptable and the brakes don’t hold up to repeated stop and go driving.

IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?

Is the Land Rover Range Rover Velar Reliable?

The 2021 Range Rover Velar does not currently have a predicted reliability score.

Land Rover Range Rover Velar Warranty

Land Rover covers the Range Rover Velar with a four-year/50,000-mile warranty.

HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?

If comfort is your main purchase driver then the Velar may be for you.  The front seats are comfortable even after a full day behind the wheel.

With the air suspension the ride quality is firm but comfortable. A Velar with optional 21- or 22-inch wheels , which have the shorter tire sidewalls, can turn the adequate ride into a well below average one.  The environment noise higher than we like in any vehicle.

WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?

While everything you look at and touch inside the Velar is of high quality, it’s not intuitive. Controls are often hidden in on-screen menus, and it’s often not evident where to find them.

The air suspension lowers the Velar’s ride height when parked, making it easy to get in and out of. The driving position is comfortable.  Visibility is surprisingly good for a SUV of this style.   There’s plenty of room for both front and rear passengers too.

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?

The two-screen setup in the Velar is more form than function. It has slow response times and numerous glitches syncing phones over Bluetooth and through USB. Although Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration are standard, there are numerous issues with Android Auto integration.

The Velar comes with all the latest driver aids, from adaptive cruise control to surround-view cameras. It works OK at best with plenty of false positives.

WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?

The Velar has as much cargo space as some midsize SUVs and almost twice as much as some competitors.

The center console is small, but there’s a small shelf behind the bottom screen and deep door pockets to hold larger items.

IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?

The Velar’s fit and finish are excellent. Oddly, some features you’d expect to be standard on a vehicle like this, such as traffic-adaptive cruise control, are optional. Comparably equipped, the Velar can cost significantly more than its rivals.

IS THE Range Rover Velar A GOOD SUV?

Yes, the Range Rover Velar is a good SUV. The Velar has precise handling, sharp steering, and solid off-road prowess.  The cabin is built from top-notch materials. The front seats are comfortable, and the updated infotainment system is much better than those in previous models.

SHOULD I BUY THE range rover velar?

The Velar is a good overall SUV, but it’s more expensive (for the same features) than many other alternatives.

THE FINAL WORD

The Range Rover Velar is a fine SUV.  However, some rivals offer more space and more powerful engines for a lower price.
