What the critics have to say…

The three-row SUV market is hot, and the Nissan Pathfinder had fallen behind—in fact, it skipped the 2021 model year entirely. Now it’s back for 2022, fully redesigned with bold exterior styling, a higher-tech interior, and a revised powertrain. The Pathfinder offers seating for seven or eight passengers, aiming to gain a competitive edge in the three-row SUV segment.

Motortrend

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?

The new Pathfinder feels right on par for the class. Performance from the V6 is about even with the class leaders. The transmission can be reluctant to downshift uphill, but most of the time it shifts smoothly and unobtrusively. Braking performance is average as well.

Edmunds

IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?

Is the Nissan Pathfinder Reliable?

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder does not yet have a J.D. Power predicted reliability score.

Nissan Pathfinder Warranty

Nissan covers the 2022 Pathfinder with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?

We didn’t find the Pathfinder to be the most comfortable vehicle in its class, but it’s not a bad place to spend your time. The ride is comfortable without feeling overly soft or bouncy. You feel bumps, but they don’t send shocks through the seats. The front seats are a bit flat and firm, so comfort can wane after a long day behind the wheel.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?

It’s inside where the 2022 Pathfinder takes its biggest leap forward over the outgoing 2020 model. A far more modern and truck-like interior design replaces the dated styling of the last generation. The Pathfinder remains a three-row SUV but buyers can now choose to swap the standard second-row bench seat for captain’s chairs—a desirable feature in a family crossover.

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?

The new Pathfinder is loaded with tech, but none of it stands out in this class. Our test vehicle was fitted with Nissan’s ProPilot Assist driver aid suite. It includes adaptive cruise control and a lane-centering system. The adaptive cruise is tied to the navigation, so it can slow down before a curve in the road. It sounds nice, but we found it to be more of an annoyance than anything. The lane-centering works well most of the time, but in our testing we noticed a few occasions when it tried to steer the vehicle over double yellow lines.

WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?

Nissan has integrated more storage cubbies this time around, including a large bin below the center console that’s accessible by the driver or front-seat passenger. Upper trim levels come appropriately decked out with luxuries such as semi-aniline leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?

The Pathfinder lines up about evenly with most rivals when it comes to cost and overall value. Build quality is a major step up over the outgoing model. The interior looks and feels pretty nice, with some soft materials on the dash and a clean overall design. We wouldn’t call it premium, but it feels worth the price.

Edmunds

IS THE Nissan Pathfinder A GOOD SUV?

The redesigned 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is a good midsize SUV and a significant improvement on the model it replaces. The new Pathfinder has a bold and squared-off physique that is complemented by a refined V6 powertrain, composed handling, and stout towing ability. Its interior has an upscale appearance with quality finishes, intuitive tech features, and seating for up to eight passengers. A sizable cargo area and wealth of driver assistance features only sweeten its appeal.

SHOULD I BUY THE Nissan Pathfinder?

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder merits strong consideration if you’re shopping for a three-row SUV. The Pathfinder is enjoyable to drive, offers generous seating space and cargo room, and comes loaded with the latest tech and safety features. It also feels a bit swankier than its roughly $33,000 starting price suggests.

THE FINAL WORD

The redesigned 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is an enormous step up from model it replaces. The Pathfinder is a good choice that doesn’t do anything particularly well, but again, nothing is done particularly poorly either.
