Mercedes-Benz GLC – RANKINGS, COMPARISONS AND INFORMATION SHEETS

Updated March 23, 2022

WHY IS THIS INFORMATION IMPORTANT?

This page will tell you everything that you need to know about the Acura MDX.  Buying a vehicle is a huge accomplishment and a huge financial outlay.  We want you to have as much information as possible, so that you can make the best decision for you.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (X253/C253) is a compact luxury crossover SUV introduced in 2015 for the 2016 model year that replaces the GLK-Class. According to Mercedes-Benz, it is the SUV equivalent to the C-Class.

Under the vehicle naming scheme maintained by Mercedes-Benz, SUVs use the base name “GL”, followed by the model’s placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy. The “G” is for Geländewagen (German for off-road vehicle) and alludes to the long-running G-Wagen. This is followed by the letter “L” that acts as a linkage with the letter “C” to signify that the vehicle is a SUV equivalent to the C-Class.[3][4]

What the critics have to say…

The compact luxury SUV class is about as competitive as they come, and the GLC-Class is Mercedes-Benz’s segment-challenger. As with the BMW X3/X4 and Audi Q5, Mercedes offers the GLC in two body styles: a conventional two-box SUV and a sloping-roof coupe-like SUV. Mercedes introduced the GLC as a new model for 2016 and gave it a midcycle face-lift for the 2020 model year.

Motortrend

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?

We tested the GLC 300. It has plenty of power for merging onto a highway or making a quick pass on two-lane roads. In our testing, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph took just 5.8 seconds. That’s quicker than average for a small luxury SUV with a base four-cylinder engine. (For comparison, an Audi Q5 did 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds.) The GLC’s nine-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and quickly.

Edmunds

IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?

Is the Mercedes-Benz GLC Reliable?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC has a predicted reliability score of 78 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average, and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Warranty

Mercedes-Benz covers the GLC with a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty.

HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?

The GLC has outstanding ride comfort. It ably absorbs bumps and cracks in the road and gives you a feeling of stability and control. This is as refined as it gets for an SUV of this size. The front seats are also quite comfortable and have a wide range of adjustability.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?

The GLC interior delivers attractive materials, wonderful build quality, and comfortable passenger accommodations. Mercedes also stocks the GLC with luxurious standard equipment that includes dual-zone climate control and power-adjustable front seats with heated cushions. The SUV also can be upgraded with leather surfaces, head-up display, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and more.

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?

The 10.25-inch MBUX center screen has vibrant-looking graphics and menus. Integrated navigation and the digital information cluster display cost extra but are perfect complements. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility comes standard, and both boot up quickly. The range and accuracy of the voice control system make this one of the few worth using.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?

Unfortunately, the GLC is less generous with its limited interior cubby storage and mediocre cargo capacity, which measures 19 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 57 cubes with the back seats folded. Each of those volumes are smaller than the X3 that offers 29 and 63 cubes, respectively. However, we fit eight carry-on suitcases behind the back seat of both.

Car and Driver

IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?

The GLC is priced similarly to its competitors and feels every bit a high-quality luxury vehicle. There are premium materials throughout the interior and considerable heft to the controls. The body panels line up with German precision. This airtight build process, plus the addition of standard MBUX, makes the price seem more than reasonable.

Edmunds

IS THE Mercedes-Benz GLC A GOOD SUV?

Yes, the GLC is a good luxury compact SUV. It’s easy and satisfying to drive, with confident cornering abilities, a generally agreeable ride, and a stable of intriguing engine choices. A standard turbocharged engine provides peppy acceleration and good fuel economy, while several performance-oriented AMG models offer more power and improved handling and agility.

SHOULD I BUY THE Mercedes-Benz GLC?

With a sub-$30,000 base price (among the lowest in the class) and a decent list of standard features, the well-rounded 2022 Sorento is a good value. It makes a solid family vehicle and a comfortable commuter.

THE FINAL WORD

Few luxury mid-size SUVs combine an engaging drive with high-end luxury and technology the way the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC does. It’s worth the somewhat high price tag it commands and is an appealing overall choice.
