What the critics have to say…
If the current crop of German and Japanese luxury mid-size SUVs fail to get your blood pumping, the 2022 Maserati Levante might have the muscle and flair that you’re looking for.
— Car and Driver
The Maserati Levante, the company’s midsize luxury SUV, debuted for the 2017 model year. It has remained relatively unchanged since then, offering distinctive styling and the choice of a turbocharged V6 or a mighty turbocharged V8. It’s a relatively rare and distinctive sight on the road, too, which could be a draw if you’re tired of more conservatively styled German SUVs.

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?
The Levante focuses on sport sitting somewhere between luxury SUV models and vehicles like the BMW M and Mercedes-Benz AMG. It’s turbo V6 sounds wonderful, but the engine is a little slow to respond when driving in Normal mode.
The steering is precise, with the right amount of effort depending on speed. The Levante performs well on tight, twisty roads with its grippy tires, low body roll and stability.
IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?
The 2021 Maserati Levante does not yet have a J.D. Power predicted reliability score.
Maserati Levante Warranty
Maserati covers the Levante with a four-year/50,000-mile warranty.
HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?
The Levante’s cabin is quiet, but the comfort level is a concern. The front seats are firm and comfortable.
The climate control system keeps air temps in check, and the redundant functions found in both the touchscreen and the buttons below it are a nice touch.
WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?
Getting in and out of the Levante is easy. Once inside, there’s comfortable space in nearly every seat.
Overall visibility is average, with an unobstructed front view. The rear window is slightly smaller than those in most SUVs, and the thick rear pillars compromise some of the rearward view.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?
The Levante is an aging vehicle, especially when it comes to the infotainment system and controls. The interface looks and feels behind the times. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration is poorly done.
The Levante is missing features such as a surround-view camera. Still, the adaptive cruise control is simple to use and operates smoothly, holding a tight gap between cars and maintaining a constant speed downhill.
WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?
The Levante does a poor job with storage. There is 20.5 cubic feet behind the second-row seats, is near the bottom of the class. There’s a good amount of space for smaller items thanks to a deep center console and a bit in front of the shifter. There are also four cupholders up front, which is unusual for a luxury SUV.
IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?
The Levante’s Italian pedigree is about all it has going for it. It’s pricey for what you get and its interior materials and build quality feel inferior to that of competitors. The Levante’s warranty is comparable to coverage provided by rivals.
IS THE maserati levante A GOOD SUV?
Yes, the Maserati Levante is a good SUV. It handles well and it is comfortable.
There are some flaws in this Italian SUV, though. Its cargo capacity and gas mileage ratings are poor for the class. The Levante’s cabin isn’t as plush as some rival interiors, and its ride is firmer than you’d expect in a luxury vehicle.
SHOULD I BUY THE maserati levante?
As detailed above, the Levante is unquestionably one of the most athletic vehicles in the class, and if you’re looking for sporty performance in an SUV body, you couldn’t ask for much more than this Maserati delivers. However, it isn’t as swanky as some rivals, so this isn’t the best choice if you want the most luxurious SUV possible. The Levante is also more expensive than many competitors, so it isn’t a value play..
THE FINAL WORD
The 2021 Levante is an attractive SUV from a brand with real punching power. It’s pricey. It is one of the most expensive vehicles in the class, but doesn’t come with as many features as most others.
