What the critics have to say…

The 2022 Genesis GV70 is the brand’s all-new small luxury SUV. Smaller and less expensive than the similarly new GV80, the GV70 competes against such heavy hitters as the Acura RDX, BMW X3, Lexus NX, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Volvo XC60. After finally getting a chance to drive the GV70 for ourselves, we can state that Genesis is getting tantalizingly close to equaling the established German luxury brands.

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?

The GV70 comes with the same engines that are in the larger GV80, which is promising for performance since the GV70 weighs less. The 2.5T model comes with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, while the GV70 3.5T has a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 good for 375 hp and 391 lb-ft. Both engines have strong power outputs for the class. The GV70 also has an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.

IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?

Is the Genesis GV70 Reliable?

The 2022 Genesis GV70 does not yet have a predicted reliability score.

Genesis GV70 Warranty

Genesis covers the GV70 with a five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?

Not surprisingly, the GV70’s sporty handling results in a rather stiff ride quality. Even in the Comfort drive mode, impacts from potholes are noticeably harsh. The large 21-inch wheels and narrow sidewall tires on our 3.5T test vehicle were likely contributors to the lack of initial compliance, but rivals with large wheels seem to absorb road imperfections better.

WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?

The GV70’s cabin design is more daring than its larger sibling, the GV80, and the sweeping lines of the exterior carry into the interior for a cohesive look. Fine materials line the inside and nicely knurled glass shift knob looks and feels luxurious. A common complaint about the G70 sedan is its cramped rear seat, and the GV70 has more space to offer additional legroom to back-seat riders, but it’s still not particularly roomy.

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?

There’s no shortage of interesting features inside the GV70. The new SUV comes with a 14.5-inch touchscreen atop the dash, and an available digital instrument display that has a cool 3D effect for its graphics.
Edmunds

WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?

Cargo capacity is more generous, but we’ll have to wait to see how the GV70 will compare with chief rivals such as the Audi Q5, the X3, and the GLC-class in our real-world testing.

IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?

All this excellence will cost you, though not as much as you might expect. An entry-level 2022 Genesis GV70 starts right around $42,000 including $1,045 in delivery fees, undercutting the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 by a couple grand each. Naturally, the Sport Prestige model I’m evaluating here is a bit steeper, but still, it checks out for right around 64 grand, which, honestly, seems like a bargain given how luxurious this SUV looks and feels.

IS THE GENESIS GV70 A GOOD SUV?

Yes, the Genesis GV70 is a good SUV. This small luxury crossover gives you a choice between a peppy turbo-four or a zesty twin-turbo V6 engine, both of which have plenty of muscle. Though it’s not a class leader for handling or ride quality, this Genesis is good in both areas, and it gets decent gas mileage.

SHOULD I BUY THE GENESIS GV70?

This all-new Genesis is worth a look for many small luxury crossover shoppers. In addition to the many plaudits discussed above, it carries a lower price tag than many of its classmates, which makes it a strong value.

THE FINAL WORD

The Genesis GV70 enters this segment as a contender for best compact SUV.  You get more for your money than in any other SUV.  It’s not quite as luxurious as some of the German brands, but it is very, very close and costs much less.
