Ford Edge

WHY IS THIS INFORMATION IMPORTANT?

This page will tell you everything that you need to know about this vehicle.  Buying a vehicle is a huge accomplishment and a huge financial outlay.  We want you to have as much information as possible, so that you can make the best decision for you.

The Ford Edge is a range of crossover SUVs manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Edge is the first mid-size CUV marketed by Ford in North America; the model line is currently in its second generation. Deriving its name from a trim package of the Ford Ranger, the Ford Edge is positioned between the Ford Escape and the Ford Explorer within the Ford product line.

Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Fusion sedan, Ford has also produced the model line as the Lincoln MKX (since 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus); the first generation was also produced as the Mazda CX-9. The second generation is also marketed by Ford of Europe, positioned between the Kuga (Escape) and the Explorer PHEV.

All production of the Ford Edge is sourced from Ford of Canada at Oakville Assembly (Oakville, Ontario) alongside the Nautilus.

What the critics have to say…

The Ford Edge is a spacious everyday midsize SUV with upscale aspirations. It’s meant more for pavement than any sort of off-roading, but it can be had with AWD.

Motortrend

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?

Overall, the turbo four-cylinder engine is up to the task of moving the Edge. At freeway speeds, the acceleration could be better. Its responses are heavily damped, but the thrust it ultimately delivers is generally satisfactory. Our test vehicle did 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds. Consistently agreeable steering, handling and braking give the Edge good manners even if it won’t quicken your pulse.

Edmunds

IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?

Is the Ford Edge Reliable?

The 2021 Edge does not yet have a predicted reliability score.

Ford Edge Warranty

Ford covers the Edge with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?

The Edge’s comfortable front seats offer supportive bolsters and soft leather, but the rear seats are fairly flat and shapeless. The reclining rear seatback is a nice touch, though. The suspension and body dampen out moderate-size bumps in the road pretty well, but smaller bumps and imperfect pavement actually make the Edge feel a little bouncy.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?

Plenty spacious for four adults, the Edge’s cabin is a comfortable place for a commute or a road trip. Materials throughout the cabin are nicely chosen, but panel fit and finish could be better; we noticed a few misaligned dashboard pieces in our test vehicle. Otherwise, the interior design is simple and understated, with plenty of room for people and cargo.

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?

The Ford Edge now includes the latest version of Ford’s Sync infotainment system. That includes a tall 12-inch touchscreen display. The navigation system is one of the best you’ll find in any car today, and the new screen looks crisp and is responsive to use.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?

If putting junk in the trunk is important to you, the two-row-crossover segment is a great enabler. With the rear seats folded, the Edge accommodated 29 of our carry-on suitcases. Its competitors are all closely matched in cargo room, but the Edge’s thoughtful storage cubbies and slightly roomier cabin might seal the deal.

IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?

Buyers perceive value in different ways, but the Edge should rank high with people who prioritize comfort, technology and active safety. The base Edge with its 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder stacks up well against most competitors and offers a generous set of standard features.

Edmunds

IS THE Ford Edge A GOOD SUV?

The 2021 Ford Edge is a good midsize SUV by most standards. Because of its respectable combination of cargo and passenger space, safety and reliability ratings, positive reviews from automotive journalists, and available family-friendly features, we named the Edge a finalist for our 2021 Best 2-Row SUV for Families award. The Edge has a roomy five-seat interior with an easy-to-use infotainment system, lots of active safety features, and decent cargo space. It’s comfortable to drive day to day, and its turbocharged engines yield peppy acceleration and above-average fuel economy. Good crash safety ratings also inspire confidence.

USNews

SHOULD I BUY THE Ford Edge?

The 2021 Ford Edge is worth a look if you’re shopping for a two-row midsize SUV, but perhaps not as a first pick. The Hyundai Santa Fe is a better value, thanks to its lower starting price and higher-end cabin materials. The Honda Passport and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport both offer a bit more cargo-carrying and towing ability than the Edge.

THE FINAL WORD

Tech upgrades and features keeps the Ford Edge competitive in the jam-packed midsize SUV class. It just isn’t enough to make the Edge a class leader, especially when compared to fresher rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda Passport, and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.
