WHY IS THIS INFORMATION IMPORTANT?
This page will tell you everything that you need to know about this SUV. Buying a vehicle is a huge accomplishment and a large financial outlay. We want you to have as much information as possible, so that you can make the best decision for you.
The Chevrolet Traverse is a seven or eight seat mid-size crossover SUV built by General Motors. It is built on the same platform as the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave (Lambda for first generation, C1XX for second generation). It also shares the C1XX platform with the Cadillac XT6. It is the successor to the Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV and Uplander minivan.
The first Traverse was built at GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee, assembly plant during 2009, but then production of the Traverse had moved to GM’s Delta Township, Michigan, assembly plant in 2010.
The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse debuted at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show and the Traverse had arrived at every Chevrolet dealer in October 2008.
The second generation model debuted in showrooms in the summer of 2017. Starting with the 2019 model year, the Traverse was slotted above the new mid-size Chevrolet Blazer as part of Chevrolet’s plans to expand its SUV lineup.

What the critics have to say…
Although not as big and burly as the Tahoe and Suburban, the Traverse is a spacious three-row crossover that leans toward the larger side of its segment. Chevrolet introduced the current, second-generation Traverse for the 2018 model year and is issuing a midcycle face-lift for 2022 that integrates styling elements from the aforementioned newly redesigned Chevy full-size SUVs. The Traverse competes against other three-row family SUVs including the Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, and Toyota Highlander.

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?
The Traverse’s V6 engine provides strong acceleration when you really ask for it, but in general it tends to select a higher gear for fuel economy, which sometimes makes it feel less punchy. It took 7.1 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph in our testing, which is relatively quick for the three-row SUV class. The transmission’s quick shifts are well suited to low-speed city driving, and the brakes have good stopping power despite a lack of pedal feel.
Edmunds
IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?
Is the Chevrolet Traverse Reliable?
The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse has a predicted reliability score of 82 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average, and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.
Chevrolet Traverse Warranty
The Chevy Traverse has a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?
If you’re looking for comfortable and quiet family transport above all else, the Traverse should be on your short list. The seats are supportive enough for long rides, and there’s enough legroom in all three rows for adults of average size. The ride is top-notch, with tall-sidewall tires and a soft suspension soaking up bumps and impacts. At highway speeds, the cabin stays relatively hushed, with just the slightest hint of wind noise over the side mirrors.

WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?
The materials in the top-level High Country are handsome but fall slightly short of expectations given that version’s lofty price.

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?
A standard Wi-Fi connection, a high-quality upgraded sound system and easy-to-use voice controls give the Traverse an edge among three-row SUVs. The navigation display is clear and detailed, if somewhat small compared to the size of the screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Up to seven devices can connect to the onboard Wi-Fi, which should keep passengers happy on long drives.
Edmunds
WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?
The Chevy Traverse has more cargo space than nearly any other midsize SUV. There’s 23 cubic feet behind the third-row seats, which is more than enough for stowing carry-on luggage, golf bags, or a baby stroller. These seats fold flat to reveal 57.8 cubic feet of space behind the second row. There’s a vast 98.2 cubic feet with all the rear seats folded, which is plenty of room for stowing furniture, home improvement supplies, and other bulky cargo.

IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?
The Traverse’s scheduled maintenance and warranties are about average for the class. Complimentary roadside assistance stretches for five years/60,000 miles, which is better than what some rivals offer. That’s impressive support, but the Chevy’s build quality feels only average, and even a little low-rent, for its price.
Edmunds
IS THE Chevrolet Traverse A GOOD SUV?
The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse is a good option in the midsize SUV class. The Traverse boasts a cavernous interior with room for up to eight passengers plus all their cargo. It’s comfortable to drive on less-than-perfect pavement, and its V6 engine enables swift acceleration and respectable towing ability. The Traverse also has a user-friendly infotainment system and a host of standard safety features. On the downside, this big SUV isn’t the easiest to park, and its cabin materials come across as cheap.

SHOULD I BUY THE Chevrolet Traverse?
You should consider the 2022 Chevy Traverse if you have a large family and want an SUV that can shuttle everyone and their stuff around in comfort. Crossover SUVs don’t get much roomier than this. That said, they do get more luxurious. If a posh interior is a top priority, you may want to consider other three-row SUVs first, like the Kia Telluride, Mazda CX-9, or Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

THE FINAL WORD
The Chevrolet Traverse isn’t the sportiest or the best looking SUV, but it has ample seating space, a large cargo area and it’s comfortable.
