WHY IS THIS INFORMATION IMPORTANT?
This page will tell you everything that you need to know about this SUV. Buying a vehicle is a huge accomplishment and a large financial outlay. We want you to have as much information as possible, so that you can make the best decision for you.
The XT4 (short for “Crossover Touring 4”) is Cadillac’s second crossover SUV, slotting below the mid-size Cadillac XT5, serving as the luxury equivalent to the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. It is the third model to use Cadillac’s new alphanumeric naming scheme (after the CT6 and XT5), and the second of three vehicles Cadillac is introducing in the Crossover Touring (XT) series, the third being the mid-sized three-row XT6 that debuted in 2019 as a 2020 model. It utilizes GM’s E2 platform, shared with the Chevrolet Malibu and Opel Insignia/Buick Regal.
Cadillac introduced a teaser for the XT4 during a telecast of the 90th Academy Awards on March 4, 2018, and it made its official debut at the 2018 New York Auto Show on March 27, 2018. Cadillac started taking customer pre-orders shortly following the New York debut.
The XT4 is produced at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant, and went on sale in the fall of 2018 as a 2019 model. The Chinese-market XT4 is manufactured in Shanghai by SAIC-GM.

What the critics have to say…
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 is Cadillac’s smallest and lowest-priced luxury SUV. It debuted back for 2019 and carries on into 2022 without any major updates. The XT4 may be small compared to the likes of the Escalade, but it’s actually one of the roomier vehicles in its class, offering plenty of passenger and cargo space for the price. The easy-to-use infotainment system is another highlight.
— Edmunds
As well as size, the 2021 XT4 sits between price brackets as well. Which is part of Cadillac’s overall appeal. The company’s creations come with plenty of equipment, excellent suspensions, and what might be considered attractive looks at a lower cost than a comparable German rival.
HOW DOES IT DRIVE?
The XT4 packs ample power, but it’s relatively slow and clumsy.
With a light foot, the XT4 stays calm and is usually in the right gear. But more aggressive driving can catch the transmission out, either trying not to downshift or downshifting too many gears at once.
IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 has a predicted reliability score of 81 our of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average, and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.
Cadillac XT4 Warranty
Cadillac backs the XT4 with a four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty and a six-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty.
HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?
Engine, wind and road noise will all be constant reminders that this is Cadillac’s bottom of the line entry.
The seats are comfortable, but this isn’t the experience that you likely expect in a luxury SUV.
WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?
The XT4 has a stylish and modern interior. The dash controls are intuitive, but the steering wheel controls are completely the opposite.
The vehicle is easy to get in and out of. Visibility is excellent.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?
Cadillac delivered a system that is quick, sharp and easy to use. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration comes standard, along with USB and USB-C connections. There’s also a wireless charging pad and new wireless functionality for CarPlay and Android Auto. The main drawback is that the multimedia control knob is clumsy and unnecessary; it can only scroll and doesn’t work in some menus.
WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?
Cargo space is average for the class. There’s also plenty of small storage spaces for drink bottles and personal items.
IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?
Interior quality is a mixed bag — the leather upholstery is truly fantastic, but it’s coupled with low-grade plastic panels. Fully loaded, this baby Cadillac can cost almost as much as more luxurious SUVs such as the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.
Warranty coverage (four years/50,000 miles) is consistent with the class, but powertrain coverage (six years/70,000 miles) is better than most. Roadside assistance coverage is also above average.
IS THE cadillac xt4 A GOOD SUV?
Yes, the Cadillac XT4 is a good luxury SUV. It has loads of features, lots of passenger space, and plenty of cargo room behind the rear seats. However, there are several things holding this vehicle back. Acceleration is lackluster, and overall performance is underwhelming. This Cadillac also trails the interior and ride quality of rival luxury subcompact SUVs.
SHOULD I BUY THE cadillac xt4?
The Cadillac XT4 isn’t a bad model, but it’s pricier than several rivals while providing less value. The Volvo XC40 has a higher-end cabin, brisker acceleration, a gentler ride, and a lower starting price than the Cadillac. For something more fun to drive than the XT4, consider the BMW X1.
THE FINAL WORD
The Cadillac XT4 truly a middle of the pack vehicle, but it is also appealing in that is different than everything else available.
