What the critics have to say…
The five-passenger Buick Envision saw a major refresh in 2021, but for 2022 it mostly stays the course, and that’s not a bad thing. The second generation crossover is still a thing of beauty, featuring handsome good looks and healthy amounts of comfort and convenience features at every trim level. For 2022, you can add fuel economy to that list of strengths.

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?
Mat the gas and the Envision reaches 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, which is decently quick for a small SUV. From the driver’s seat, it doesn’t feel that quick, which could be a bonus for those who prefer quiet confidence over theater. The gas pedal is immediately and pleasingly responsive. The brakes are also better than average. Emergency stopping distances are short, and the vehicle remains composed and controllable. The pedal feel is reassuring.
Edmunds
IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?
Is the Buick Envision Reliable?
The 2022 Buick Envision has a predicted reliability score of 85 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average, and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.
Buick Envision Warranty
General Motors covers the Buick Envision with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?
The front seats have enough adjustments for most drivers to find a preferred seating position. But the bottom seat cushion is a bit short for taller passengers. The padding is on the firm side and can create some hard spots after a few hours. The massage functions are weak compared to premium luxury versions, but they’re a welcome relief when you start feeling those hard spots.
Edmunds
WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?
The Envision’s interior design looks quite snazzy and of the three trim levels, the Avenir is the one that best competes with rivals such as the Q5, X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-class. Although the Preferred and Essence models offer plenty of standard features, the Avenir brings luxuries such as quilted leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a massaging driver’s seat.
Car and Driver
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?
The base model Envision Preferred is nicely furnished, sporting automatic on-off LED headlights and keyless open and start. The cabin is outfitted with six speakers, a 4.2-inch instrument cluster display, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The Envision Preferred’s interior also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and active noise cancellation.

WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?
With 25.2 cubic feet of cargo space, the Envision cargo area is well below what the typical small SUV offers. Buick hasn’t added any clever storage bins or shelves, but there are some hooks that you can use to secure grocery bags. The liftover height is about average, and the available hands-free hatch function works well.
Edmunds
IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?
The Envision occupies an odd space: one that’s a cut above your standard small SUV in interior materials quality and exterior appearance, but at a hefty premium. You might cross-shop it across both luxury and non-luxury segments, but ultimately it’s not as good a value as a mainstream SUV or as luxurious as a top European small SUV.
Edmunds
IS THE ENVISION A GOOD SUV?
Yes, the 2022 Buick Envision is a good SUV. It accelerates briskly, returns great fuel economy, and rides comfortably over most road surfaces. The Envision also has roomy first- and second-row seats, and it comes packed with standard driver assistance features like blind spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking. The catch is that the Envision doesn’t quite live up to its posh billing. The cabin materials are nice but not luxury fare, wind noise is pronounced at highway speeds, and base models skimp on expected amenities such as automatic climate control.

SHOULD I BUY THE ENVISION?
You should consider the Envision if you want a premium SUV without the premium price tag. The Envision starts at around $32,000, which is $10,000 less than rivals like the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. That value is hard to beat. On the other hand, if you can afford to spend more, that trio – along with many others in the luxury compact SUV class – will provide ritzier accommodations.

THE FINAL WORD
The Envision is an excellent compact SUV, but it isn’t a GLC, Q5 or X3. If you don’t mind less than luxurious accommodations then keep it on your shortlist.
